How to install MemcardRex

Windows takes about five minutes. macOS is a separate build, and Linux is built from source.

Windows

Step 1: Install the .NET 8 Desktop Runtime

Current MemcardRex builds need .NET 8. Download the Desktop Runtime for x64 from Microsoft and run the installer. You only do this once per PC.

Step 2: Download and extract

Download the Windows build from the official release. Extract the archive into a folder you own, such as Documents\MemcardRex. Avoid Program Files, where settings may not save.

Step 3: Run MemcardRex

Double-click MemcardRex.exe. If SmartScreen warns about an unrecognised app, choose More info, then Run anyway, but only for the file you downloaded from GitHub.

LibUSB support

If you need LibUSB instead of WinUSB for the PS3 adaptor, the README says to place libusb-1.0.dll in the MemcardRex folder (2.0 RC1 and later).

macOS

  1. Download the macOS build.
  2. Move MemcardRex to Applications.
  3. The first time, right-click it and choose Open so Gatekeeper allows it.

Linux

The Linux version is in beta and is built from source.

  1. Install the .NET 8 SDK from your distribution or Microsoft.
  2. Clone github.com/ShendoXT/memcardrex.
  3. Follow the readme in the MemcardRex.Linux folder.
  4. For serial readers, add your user to the dialout group and log in again.

Android and iOS

There is no Android or iOS version. Prepare cards on a computer, then copy the .mcr, .mcd or .srm file to your phone emulator's save folder.

After installation

Set your card reader and COM port in Options, then Preferences, if you use real cards. Then read the user guide or convert your first card.
